These Are Not Photographs. They are Original Oil Paintings and Nostalgic Art by Doug Bloodworth

The hyper-real depictions of the pop culture flotsam and jetsam of our lives is a major part of the artist’s appeal, according to Michael Rosen, curator of Photorealism, a dealer in solely photorealistic art. “It’s a combination of, number one, the actual technical skill involved in the works,” Miller says. “I’ve been in his studio and sat there for three hours watching him complete three square inches of a candy wrapper. Watching it appear from a white canvas is totally amazing. Then you have the addition of nostalgia. When one sees the actual works, it takes you back to another time.”

A combination of Pop Art, photography and textural paint strokes, his work was born from inspirations that began when he was a boy, and have grown into the refined craft of photo-realism. Bloodworth delights in depicting such beloved and familiar touchstones of Americana as Keebler fudge stripe cookies, M&Ms candies, Coke bottles, Monopoly games, Batman comics, and The New York Times crossword—in mid-attempt—all blown up to giant 4-foot-by-5-foot size.

“I am a photorealist oil painter. I enjoy evoking the viewer’s nostalgic feelings of one’s childhood, be that in comic books, games we played, or our comfort foods.” – Doug Bloodworth

“A maverick in capturing hyper-realistic photography on an oil canvas medium, Florida-based artist Doug Bloodworth delves into the fondest memories of American childhood in his latest collection of paintings. Junk food scattered on top of retro comic books, melting popsicles on tabletops and crumb-covered crossword puzzles are just a few of Bloodworth’s nostalgic scenarios, drawn out in an unbelievably realistic fashion.” – High Snobiety

“As such, I spent a lot of time watching kids’ television and reading comic books. As an adult, I love depicting these nostalgic images in my paintings.” – Doug Bloodworth
