Featuring a stunning variant of movement and form, Pablo Picasso has transformed the art of the textured surface of this ceramic plate by depicting a series of three characters on a trampoline. Each is suspended in mid-air, each in varying positions, each figure complementing the other in an equally balanced and innovative composition. As if to be read from left to right, this series of characters could even be a study of one fluid movement broken down into a type of slideshow.
Created in 1956, this small convex wall plaque of white earthenware clay with engraving accentuated with oxidized paraffin in a glaze bath is from the edition of 500. This work is stamped with the ‘MADOURA PLEIN FEU’ and ‘EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO’ pottery stamps on the reverse.
